Video Wisconsin Develops Award-Winning Financial Literacy Simulation

Brookfield, WI – January 22, 2012 – Money Mission, an interactive financial literacy simulation developed by Video Wisconsin, has earned the Wisconsin Financial Literacy Award for 2011.

Money Mission was developed to teach the principles of financial literacy to high school students with high levels of learner engagement through use of simulation and gaming techniques. Money Mission is sponsored by and offered through credit unions across the country, with strong statewide support in Wisconsin. The program has seen rapid growth and success in just its second year in the marketplace, tripling its user base and reaching children in 40 states.  “We’ve been able to go into classrooms and witness first-hand how this simulation engages at an incredibly high level as it teaches the youth how to manage their finances. This award is an honor and a further validation of the simulation’s effectiveness in conveying some rather complex concepts,” says Mark West, the simulation’s creative director.

Ralph Metzner, the simulation’s author adds, “The real reward to me is hearing and reading what kids have to say about what they’ve learned in the simulation. They echo back the critical points we’re trying to teach. That’s the true measure of success for this simulation.”

Video Wisconsin developed the program as a “clean-sheet” design, developing the simulation prototype, original program graphics, interactive concept, and all program content.

“It has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” says West. “We’ve been able to create a leading-edge learning tool using all of the best of the resources Video Wisconsin can provide.”

Video Wisconsin Produces Healthy Families Waukesha PSA
Donation of Facilities and Staff Makes Production Possible

Brookfield, WI – January 10, 2011 – Video Wisconsin volunteered their production facilities and staff to produce a PSA for Healthy Families of Waukesha County during late December 2010. “This was an opportunity for us to support an organization that’s vital to the health and welfare of children in Waukesha County,” explains Colleen Hartley, vice president of Operations for Video Wisconsin. “Healthy Families has a phenomenal track record of success. We hope this PSA will help them to reach a bigger audience with their message.”

The PSA features a rainbow of children and drives home the message that child abuse is often passed down from generation to generation unless there’s effective intervention to “break the chain.” The finished PSA has been sent to local stations and is expected to air on TMJ4, Fox6, and CBS 58 as well as Time Warner Cable.

“This is our first PSA, and we’re thrilled with the results,” says Barbara Vaughn Peterson, the executive director of Healthy Families. “We’ve already received positive feedback from people who have seen the PSA on our web site or on YouTube. ”

There are two versions of the PSA. The first is tagged with information about the Healthy Families Gala for Heroes coming up on April 2, 2011.  The second was created to heighten awareness. Links to the two versions are as follows:
